Discussion:
Firefox telling me KAT is a phishing site?

Subject says it all. Didn't happen last night - or any other day that I've
visited KAT. What's the chances of the warning being bullshit y'all reckon?

AIUI all it takes for FF to do blacklist a page is for them to receive a
warning for a particular site and I think most anyone can submit a warning
notice. That said I don't want to become a botnet node...

Maybe I'll avoid KAT for today and see what folks here have to say tomorrow.

Best,

"The KAT team informs us that the bad advertiser has been removed, so
the warning should disappear after Google reviews it."

Let's hope it gets reviewed quickly.

This is why I use NoScript. I don't mind seeing ads, but not if it
involves downloading and running whatever software (JavaScript) the
advertiser wants.

Funny it only happens with my Firefox add-ons active including Adblock Plus,
not when starting Firefox in safe mode (hold down Shift key) with all
add-ons disabled. I would expect the opposite. It let's me click on through
nevertheless. That seems to suggest it relates to one of my add-ons.

Does anyone know exactly which advertiser was/is involved? I also use the
MVPS HOSTS file which blocks quite a few bad ones.

Personally I've not very concerned. I've survived shark infested waters in
the past. Just be careful what links you click on...avoid unknowns.

Another good indicator is the Web of Trust add-on.

The KA block went away after I upgraded to Firefox 41.0.1(EME-free)...

I think that may have been coincidence as it also went away for me and I
didn't upgrade then.

KAT had something going on for a while a few months back which was
something like the torrent file download request being redirected
through a torrent cache site which was throwing up ads (and who knows
what else?). Something like that anyway - memory's not so great these days.

There was a lot of aggro on the KAT forums about it at the time which
you can probably dig up if you're that interested. In any even it seemed
to settled down after a bit and afaik it's OK now.

The ad pages still appear. But that's the "price" for what we do. At the
end I close the group (of pages) and they go away.

What ad pages? I never see any at KAT. Maybe I have better ad blocking
tools.

It's when I use the tpb tor version of Firefox. It can get up to 10
spontaneous pages of ads. I haven't checked whether there is a pop up
blocker on this Firefox version. I'll have a look next time.

I don't get anything (ads) with kat but I do run a pop-up blocker. It
doesn't seem to work on tpb though ... always get a single pop-up
(pop-under actually) with those guys.

Thanks James. I went to Torrentfreak straight after posting, discovered
that, wrote a post about it but got called away and didn't hit send until
just now when I came back to the computer.

Cheers.

Best,
LOL, maybe TorrentFreak should be my first stop rather than alt-bittorent?
