Discussion:
BitTorrent port 6881 is blacklisted
(too old to reply)

Using different websites and torrents, I sometimes (and NOT always)
have a problem with the error-message: "Rejected by tracker - Port
6881 is blacklisted"

Ok, I get the point with certain internet-suppliers limiting the
bandwith and so on, but I just can't figure out _how to change the
default port in bittorrent_? Could anyone please give me a clue?

Some guys also use other bittorrent clients. What's the point of this,
and does it "cripple my groove" with www.suprnova.org?

Thanx 4 all the help.

I use Azureus. Reason: it's much more userfriendly than the original
Bittorrent. For example: changing the 6881 port is very easy. ;-)

Too many isps are slowing down traffic on the bittorrent ports (6881-6999).
Almost every client, aside from the default one, has a port changing
feature. Just pick a nice range in the tens of thousands (10000 - 50000)
and use that. BitTornado has a feature to randomly use ports so that it's
harder to throttle it.

But isn't the port dictated by the tracker and the clients you want to
download from? In other words: your advice would only help people
downloading from you, right?

When chosing a port number at random try not to pick one thats used by a
trojan or other peers AV software/firewall will block the connections.
